Timelines & Deadlines

When should I apply for a scholarship?

The reference to Spring/Summer, Fall and Winter do not reflect the academic calendar of any given university. This is impossible due to the great variation among US institutions (i.e. semesters, trimesters, quarters, etc.), in addition to the variation that exists across all other academic systems around the world where students may study abroad. Applicants must apply in the application cycle/award period according to the specific start dates listed below the seasonal headings.

Good advice

The application deadlines are subject to change. Please check back often to confirm dates.

Be certain you are applying in the correct award period. Your application will not be considered if you apply in the wrong award period.

Plan to submit your application early. Don’t miss the deadline because of technical difficulties with your equipment/network or because of heavy traffic on the FGS site.

Good to know

Award announcements may be beyond the dates listed, based on application volume.

Outcomes will be emailed to the primary email address listed on your application. Firewalls and heightened security have kept students from receiving these messages. Please check your spam folder or junk mail.

FGS will post scholarship recipients on our Facebook page and on the website.

Because of the time necessary to review and score applications, your study abroad program may begin before you know if you have been selected to receive a scholarship.

Based on acceptance requirements, scholarship recipients will not receive their scholarship check before they begin their study abroad program. Confirmation of your participation must be received by FGS before your check will be sent to you.

Scholarship checks are mailed to the permanent address listed in your application. An electronic funds transfer or direct deposit is not available.

All decisions regarding scholarship awards are those of FGS and are final.
